Tesamorelin

Also known as Egrifta, TH9507

FDA-approved GHRH analogue for HIV-associated lipodystrophy.

Medical status: Approved to reduce excess abdominal fat in HIV-associated lipodystrophy.

Also commonly used for (off-label)

  • Targeting visceral belly fat
  • Raising natural growth hormone
  • Body recomposition in mid-life

Off-label and research uses are what people report, not approved indications. Talk to a clinician before using any of them.

How it's taken (route)

Documented dose
1–2 mg
Typical frequency
Once daily, 5 days per week
Cycle
12 weeks on, 4 off
Half-life
~26-38 minutes
Common vial sizes
5 mg, 10 mg
Regulatory status
FDA-approved as Egrifta for a specific indication; other uses are off-label.

Dose on a U-100 syringe (1–2 mg)

VialBAC waterDraw
5 mg1 mL20–40 units
10 mg2 mL20–40 units
10 mg2.5 mL25–50 units

On a U-100 syringe, 100 units = 1 mL, and the syringe holds 100 units total. Most people keep a single subcutaneous injection under about 50 units — bigger volumes are usually mixed stronger (less water) or split into two shots. Only mixes that fit in one syringe are shown. Always double-check with the reconstitution calculator.

What it does

An FDA-approved growth-hormone-releasing peptide, best known for targeting visceral fat — the deep abdominal fat around the organs that is hardest to shift and most linked to health risk. What people look into it for: • Reducing deep belly fat specifically • Raising IGF-1 and supporting lean mass • Liver fat reduction • Cognitive benefits reported in some studies of older adults It is approved for HIV-associated lipodystrophy and studied elsewhere. Blood sugar should be watched, as it can drift upward.

Mechanism

Stabilised GHRH analogue stimulating endogenous GH secretion.

Storage — lyophilisedwhat's this?

Refrigerate 2-8C, protect from light.

Storage — reconstitutedwhat's this?

Store reconstituted tesamorelin at cool room temperature in a dark place (refrigeration encourages gelling), and finish the vial quickly — within about 2 weeks.

Reconstitution noteswhat's this?

Tesamorelin gels easily. Dissolve a 10 mg vial with about 0.5 ml of 0.6% acetic acid first, then add 2.5 ml bacteriostatic water — that gives 33 mcg per unit, so 1 mg is about 30 units and 2 mg about 60 units.

Stacks well with

Popular combinations reported in the community and research literature — not a recommendation. Adding peptides multiplies side-effect risk; check with a clinician.

Commonly reported side effects

  • Injection-site reactions
  • Joint pain
  • Peripheral oedema
  • Raised blood glucose

Contraindications noted

  • Active malignancy
  • Pregnancy
  • Pituitary disorders

Research notes

One of the few peptides here with approved human indications and published trial data.
