5-Amino-1MQ

Also known as 5-Amino-1-methylquinolinium

Small molecule NNMT inhibitor used in metabolic stacks.

Medical status: Not approved as a medicine; sold as a research compound.

Also commonly used for (off-label)

  • Fat metabolism and body composition
  • Preserving cellular NAD+ levels

Off-label and research uses are what people report, not approved indications. Talk to a clinician before using any of them.

How it's taken

Availability varies by supplier — injectable is the most commonly researched form.

Available forms

5-Amino-1MQ is sold in two different forms, and the dose is not the same for both. Use the numbers for the form you actually have.

Oral capsules

Typical dose

50–150 mg

Frequency

Once daily

How it's taken

Oral capsule or tablet — Swallowed with water, usually in the morning on an empty stomach about 20–30 minutes before food.

Storage

Keep the bottle somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight. No fridge needed. Capsules are shelf-stable for months.

Only a fraction of a swallowed dose reaches the bloodstream, which is why capsule doses are roughly ten times the injectable dose. Most people start at the low end for a week to see how they tolerate it.

Subcutaneous injection (vial)

Typical dose

1–5 mg

Frequency

Once daily (larger daily totals are usually split into 2 injections)

How it's taken

Subcutaneous injection — A small shot into the fat just under the skin — belly, love handle, or thigh. Rotate sites so one spot doesn't get irritated.

Storage

The dry powder stores cool and dry. Once mixed with bacteriostatic water, keep the vial in the fridge and use it within about 4 weeks.

Reconstitution

A 10 mg vial with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 5 mg per mL, so 1 mg is 20 units and 5 mg is 100 units on a U-100 syringe. A 50 mg vial with 3 mL gives about 17 mg per mL, so 2.5 mg is 15 units — that size is usually split into two 2.5 mg injections a day.

Injecting skips the gut, so the dose is roughly ten times smaller than the capsule dose. Never draw a capsule-sized dose into a syringe. Typical blocks run 4–8 weeks with a 2–4 week break.

What it does

A small molecule taken by mouth that is being looked at for fat loss and cellular energy. It blocks an enzyme (NNMT) that fat cells use to stay large and sluggish, which frees up more NAD+ — the fuel cells use to make energy. What people look into it for: • Losing body fat, especially stubborn fat, without losing muscle • More day-to-day energy and better exercise tolerance • Better blood-sugar handling and metabolic health • Supporting healthy ageing through higher NAD+ levels Most of the evidence so far comes from animal and lab studies rather than large human trials.

Mechanism

Inhibits nicotinamide N-methyltransferase, raising intracellular NAD+ in adipocytes.

Storage — lyophilisedwhat's this?

Store cool and dry.

Storage — reconstitutedwhat's this?

Refrigerate if reconstituted; use within ~28 days.

Reconstitution noteswhat's this?

Most commonly taken as oral capsules rather than injection.

Stacks well with

Popular combinations reported in the community and research literature — not a recommendation. Adding peptides multiplies side-effect risk; check with a clinician.

Commonly reported side effects

  • Insomnia
  • Jitteriness
  • Nausea

Contraindications noted

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Research notes

Only mouse data available for the fat-loss claims.
