Melanocortin agonist for sexual desire and arousal.

Medical status: Approved (as bremelanotide) for low sexual desire in premenopausal women.

Also commonly used for (off-label)

  • Libido and arousal in men and women
  • Cases where ED medications do not help

Off-label and research uses are what people report, not approved indications. Talk to a clinician before using any of them.

How it's taken

  • Subcutaneous injection

Documented dose
500–2500 mcg
Typical frequency
As needed, 45–60 minutes before sex — no more than 8 doses per month
Half-life
~2.7 hours
Common vial sizes
10 mg
Regulatory status
FDA-approved as Vyleesi for a specific indication.

Dose on a U-100 syringe (500–2500 mcg)

VialBAC waterDraw
10 mg1.5 mL7.5–38 units
10 mg2 mL10–50 units

On a U-100 syringe, 100 units = 1 mL, and the syringe holds 100 units total. Most people keep a single subcutaneous injection under about 50 units — bigger volumes are usually mixed stronger (less water) or split into two shots. Only mixes that fit in one syringe are shown. Always double-check with the reconstitution calculator.

What it does

Also called bremelanotide and approved as Vyleesi. Unlike Viagra-type drugs, which work on blood flow, this one works in the brain on the pathways that create desire itself. What people look into it for: • Low sexual desire in both women and men • Arousal problems that have not responded to blood-flow medications • Situations where the issue is wanting rather than physical ability It is used occasionally, roughly 45 minutes to a few hours before activity, not daily. Nausea and temporary flushing are common.

Mechanism

MC3R/MC4R agonist acting centrally on arousal pathways.

Storage — lyophilisedwhat's this?

Refrigerate 2-8C, protect from light.

Storage — reconstitutedwhat's this?

Refrigerate 2-8C, use within ~28 days.

Reconstitution noteswhat's this?

Common mix: 10 mg vial + 2 ml bacteriostatic water = 50 mcg per unit. A 500 mcg tolerance test is 10 units, the usual 2 mg dose is 40 units, and the 2.5 mg ceiling is 50 units. Never more than one injection in 24 hours.

Stacks well with

Popular combinations reported in the community and research literature — not a recommendation. Adding peptides multiplies side-effect risk; check with a clinician.

Commonly reported side effects

  • Nausea
  • Flushing
  • Headache
  • Transient blood pressure rise
  • Skin darkening

Contraindications noted

  • Uncontrolled hypertension
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Pregnancy

Research notes

Nausea is dose-dependent and common; start low.
